Anneke Smelik is senior lecturer in Film Studies and New Media at the University of Nijmegen (Netherlands). She published And The Mirror Cracked. Feminist Cinema and Film Theory, London: Macmillan, 1998 and co-edited Women's Studies and Culture. A Feminist Introduction, London: Zed Books, 1995. She is also the main author of a book (in Dutch) about visual and textual representations of femininity and masculinity in the media: Effectief Beeldvormen (1999). Her current research focusses on transformations of the body in science fiction films and in cyber art cd roms. She is also developing research on issues of media-education.
